I'd gotten quotes prior to last year before being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and recently have tried again and am taken aback by how large a jump has transpired! They are over double.
The most reasonable I could find would be $60/mon for $250k policy for 20 years, plus it requires a free in-home or at-work medical examination, blood work and urine sample. (Hopefully I wont have to take the urine sample in my office... heh).
It's pretty telling how terrible a job the ADA and modern physicians are apparently doing to create this stigma to our condition. At the core, I can understand since most diabetics I knew prior to my dx were doing terrible: eating fruits, grains, rice, high bg/high a1c's and ever growing neuropathy and/or retinopathy from the "medical advice" given to them. I'd imagine many of them will be shaving years off their lifespan or become disabled from complications.
I'd figure a Life Insurance company would be jumping at a fairly young guy in his 40's, healthy, tobacco free, non-obese and with a 5.5 A1c, but instead they want to treat us like we're going to keel over tomorrow!
